The most beautiful mountain

of Thailand is located in the Mae Rim district of Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand. The size of the land is approximately 15 square Wah or 24,000 square M. We're not so sure because the village head only knows the land as running from "the big tree on the top" to "the pond with the big rocks". Serious! hahaha. Easy to get there. Flights from Bangkok take only 50 minutes and cost around 4,000 Baht. The distance from Chiang Mai International Airport to the mountain is only 15 KM and takes about 25 minutes by car. All in all it is less then 3 hours from home to the very top of the mountain! And it's 1,200 meter above sea level so who cares about climate change...

The concept is that the land should not be owned by anyone but simply belongs to its inhabitants. People (off course only the nice ones) can join and occupy some space they need to build a place to co-exists with others, like the villager who lived his whole life on the mountain and will stay on as caretaker. No matter what, we should really preserve this unique environment and protect it against any development. Including the orchards with 400 lamyai trees, 600 banana trees and over 1,000 rubber trees.

Open the website
http://maps.google.co.th/maps?hl=en&tab=wl and select"Satellite" to view the map. Type "Prem International School" in the search engine. Select location "A" and zoom in until the road structure becomes visible on the satellite map. The school has a triangle shape enclosed by a road. You see on the left from the road that surrounds the school another road going in north-west direction. Take that road and ignore all crossings where you can take a left turn. You see a first crossing where you can turn right. You keep going straight. You see a second crossing where you can turn right. You turn right. You see a third crossing where you can turn right. You keep going straight. You follow the road that now goes in one horizontal line in west direction. About 100 meters before the road makes a curve to the north, you see a small sand path that runs parallel south of the road. On the left hand of the sand path, after about 50 meters, you see the roof of a small house. That is the entrance to the mountain.

The pictures are sequenced from the road until the waterfall that marks the entrance. A foot path runs around the entire land. The pictures follow the walk to the top of the mountain where the last picture is taken. When you stand on the top and see the endless horizon, I swear that you can actually hear the Sound of Music LOL. Click "older posts" to see all 9 pictures.
